Can psoriasis ruin your relationship?

I dated a guy six years a go who I thought was the love of my life. He had mild psoriasis but that did not change the way that I felt about him. Things ended because we were both young and we parted ways. After making a few dating mistakes, I decided to stay single. Two months ago, the love of my life found me. He said he had been looking for me for over a year and he showed me proof of all that he had done to find me. Today he wants us to work a relationship, live together, maybe possible marry sometime in the future. He constantly talks about his psoriasis problem, well because today it is a severe case. I am afraid that I am going to start getting concious of his condition that will reverse my feelings. I am afraid of touching him and hurting him. I have read a lot of information about this condition and I wish there was a cure, but how can you live with someone who constantly talks about it? Please help!

it sounds like you really like this guy. if that’s the case, then his psoriasis shouldn’t really matter. you’ve already accepted his problem: you went out with him once, and it sounds like you’re on the verge of getting back into a relationship. however, you should let him know that his constant talking about it is making you feel uncomfortable. tell him that although you understand that the topic will come up, you don’t want it to define your relationship. suggest a support group, or maybe counseling. this way he will have an outlet for his concerns about his disease, and the conversations between the two of you can focus on other things.
