Psoriasis In Nails

Pitted nails…but no signs of psoriasis?

A couple of months ago a few of my fingernails started to look like thimbles. Four of them are now all bumpy like this. I went to see my doctor, and she told me they were “pitted.” She told me that’s usually a sign of psoriasis, but I don’t have psoriasis!
She said it was odd I didn’t have it (and never have) since the nail pitting usually comes after the skin rashes.
Now I’m paranoid about getting the skin patches.
Has anyone else has pitted nails without psoriasis? What else could the pitting mean? Also, is there anything that can be done to prevent psoriasis just in case, (my doc told me to moisturize tons but that’s it).

I have always wondered why I had little indentations in my nails so I started looking it up. Through my research, I realized that my nails were “pitted.” I am 25 and have never had a sign of psoriasis. The things I looked through said that it can be there with out a cause, it can stem from nail trauma (I bit mine for about 21 years) or it can be sign of psoriasis or something similar. It may just be that your nails are pitted. I’m going to the doctor in a couple of days and I’m going to ask about it – hopefully I don’t get psoriasis.
